Living in a city’s downtown might not be for everyone, but for those who are drawn to it, downtown Portland real estate provides perks that other cities don’t provide.
One of the best benefits to living in the heart of downtown Portland is ease of transportation to and from downtown Portland and within it. For most people living in town, bikes and public transportation are the preferred method of moving around. Of course, there’s no necessity for cars or bikes if you use the city’s public transportation. But the town is certainly flexible and accommodates all types of transportation.
Walking regularly is a great way to get (and stay) healthy, and Portland is certainly a pedestrian’s paradise. In fact, Portland’s city blocks were constructed considerably smaller than those in other cities (200 feet instead of a typical 300 to 800 feet), making for a closer stroll to Portland’s numerous corner shops and restaurants. If your job is downtown, this means you may be able to get rid of your car completely.
Portland’s downtown has very nice residential areas where you can purchase a Portland warehouse loft conversion and reside in the city’s core in style. Depending of course on where your work is, you could end up within close walking distance of it.
There are some very good neighborhoods you should look into if you want to buy a converted loft in Portland, but for many, their top choice is The Pearl District. It’s popular due in part to the many places to shop as well as convenient transportation, The Pearl District is also where many fashionable art galleries and upscale businesses are located.
